![]() ![]() So there we are – these are my top five hardest Tomb Raider levels. It’s fun to play, and the sense of satisfaction when you reach the intriguing final FMV makes it all worthwhile. However, despite the obvious difficulty curve of Red Alert! I have to say that it’s a level I have great affection for. As such, it’s prudent to take on such challenges armed with one of Stella’s written walkthroughs or similar for guidance on how to avoid being permanently stranded in New York. ![]() Red Alert! is also made harder by a large number of potentially game-breaking bugs that can make the level literally impossible to finish. So, to survive her ordeal, she must carefully manage her resources whilst tackling laser-wielding thugs wearing impenetrable armour, cyborgs, poison gas, and an armed helicopter, together with a particularly challenging timed run at mission’s end. However, she is without her pistols o’unlimited ammunition, and the only medpacks are the ones that she has been able to collect over the previous two levels. Red Alert! takes place in a high tech tower in New York, and sees Lara trying to make her escape with the freshly-procured Iris artefact. The funny thing is, after a generally pleasurable gameplay experience, Chronicles ‘rewards’ the player with a finale to end all finales, and arguably the toughest Tomb Raider level of all time. True, it’s a bit smaller and arguably a little easier, although I must confess it is one of my absolute favourites simply because of the richness of its ideas, and its variety. Tomb Raider Chronicles is regarded – by some – as one of the series’ cheap, uninspired cash-ins. Unless you are tough enough to attempt them for yourself…) Number 5: Great Wall – Tomb Raider 2 I don’t know him personally – more’s the pity – but his Tomb Raider walkthroughs are top-notch, and will give you a good sense of what the levels are like. (Disclaimer: I’m illustrating this post with videos from Badassgamez’s channel. Thus, I thought it would be fun to list my top five Tomb Raider levels in order of toughness, starting with the – ahem – ‘easiest’ of the five, and finishing with the hardest of the hard. Tomb Raider > Guides > Andre Rocks Guides This item has been removed from the community because it violates Steam Community & Content Guidelines. The thought of some levels has even deterred me from playing, scarred as I am from the stress of previous attempts. There is no ‘pick up and play’ about them, and zero button-mashing a full playthrough of Tomb Raider 3 is not going to happen on a quiet Sunday afternoon. The other thing that I stress to people is that Tomb Raider games are far from easy. Trying to convince people that these are intelligent, story-driven action-adventures, crafted with artistic genius, often makes me sound like I’m trying to justify my teenaged obsession with an exploitative franchise. If the armored enemy has already taken a little damage (i.e., lost some of his armor), the Dodge Kill should kick in, allowing you to take him down with an arrow to the throat (as shown in part 1).When I talk to people who have never played a Tomb Raider title, their assumption is usually that Lara Croft games are mindless endeavours with an unhealthy pre-occupation with the female form. You'll then have to finish them off with gunfire (as shown above) or a finishing move (as shown in the section where you fight the 3 warriors in the sandy canyon, here). ![]() Lara will stab the enemy in the leg with an arrow, throwing him off balance briefly. Lara takes over as the Dodge Counter icon flashes briefly on screen.Įven if you have unlocked the Dodge Kill skill, for a heavily armored opponent like the pikeman, it will work as a Dodge Counter. When the gray, outer ring contracts into the inner ring and the icon lights up, press Melee. When the pikeman swings his weapon at Lara, press Dodge/Roll (Shift/Circle/B) and left or right simultaneously.Īs Lara dodges in the direction you pressed, the Melee icon will appear on screen. You've probably gotten the hang of it by now, but just to review, hold Aim to keep your weapon ready. If they manage to get close to you, use the dodge maneuver. If you can shoot them while they're jumping (as shown above), or aim for their heads or legs, you can still damage them. The pikemen's shields protect them somewhat, though not as well as the big shields the Solarii carry. Try to move back a bit as they run toward you. The first enemies to reach you are 2 pikemen with round shields. A checkpoint registers after the column falls. This forms a bridge across the gap, allowing more enemies to move down toward you. They throw down a container of explosives and shoot it to knock down the tall, stone column. But as soon as you move forward toward the next set of buildings, a brief cut scene shows the archers in the tower ahead. If you stay toward the back of this area, once you've killed the first 4 warriors, you'll have a brief respite to reload and loot the bodies behind the building. ![]()
